Electrical  &   Computers

(1) Accurately analyzing todays automotive electrical problems
involves a complete evaluation of it's electrical & mechanical
systems & their components with the latest up-to-date diagnostic
testing equipment & qualified mechanics-Tech's that take pride in
their work.
We constantly take master tech update courses. This is what is
involved for the automotive repair professional in to-days automotive
repair community.

Brakes
Like other automotive components on vehicles
today they are also computerized, with traction
control,ABS,etc: no longer can you just hang
brakes shoes and pads Run out need to be
checked brake fluid need serving because of
contamination in fluid, difference in fluids use
recommended fluid only for your vehicle,Get
quality brake parts and fluids
We repair - replace - rebuild & up-grade Engines & Transmissions.
For remanufactured Engines & Transmissions We mostly use Jasper
Engines & Transmission or Factory units as they seem to be more
reliable and carry a better warranty. For Performance we build in
house.
Drive-Trains
To-days Vehicles Drive-trains are
computerized just like ABS Brakes and
Ride-Control that takes special equipment
to diagnose these systems as most
vehicle computers all work together it is
called multiplexing   So you really do need
OE diagnostic equipment
It is almost a thing of the past as most
vehicles to-day use fuel injection as it
does a better job of fuel control to-days
vehicles demand better fuel control
Maintenance:
Q: Is it necessary for to days cars?
A: Preventive Every year millions of dollars are spent on preventive maintenance,
fitness equipment, health clubs, etc. All in the hope of improving the quality of their lives. Most
thinking people realize the benefits of regular exercise and proper diet.  All in the pursuit of  good
health and to feel good.  Our vehicles also  need preventive maintenance to be dependable.
Automotive professionals also realize the benefits of proper automotive maintenance, better
performance, longer life, safer roadways, cleaner air, and maintaining the vehicles value.  It is true,
newer vehicles do compensate for some minor problems.  That makes it even more important to
make sure your vehicle is properly maintained.  Time and time again, proper maintenance has been
the key to less costly repairs in the long run.  Preventive maintenance is expensive when it is all
done at one time
This Mans 91 Chevy Pu Has over 1 Million Miles and Still going Strong, Good Maintenance said the
owner he is   Using it  every Day Denver Post 12/2008

Is it necessary for to days cars? Example
Q: Why have your vehicles Serviced? & Repaired? At  Independent Repair Shops?
1:  Most  households have several vehicles that very in ages and manufactures.
A: Most peoples today want to have their vehicles serviced and repaired at a single reliable
location convenient for them. And like having their own mechanic or Tech.
2: Dealer-Ships can repair and Maintain the newer vehicles but often lack the parts  & Tools &
information to
maintain - repair other makes and years
3: Muffler Brake exhaust etc: shops can deal with specific repairs but normally are not able to do
general repairs.
4: Lube & Tune Shops specialists etc: can do maintenance but normally don't have the equipment and
information to  do  the full range of repairs and maintenance needed on todays vehicles.
5: Only the Independent General Repair Sector has the equipment and training & staff to deal with all
of the Repairs and Maintenance services for the full range of vehicles in the typical household

Q: Air Conditioning &
What's the deal on freon?
A: Air Conditioning: Scientists have concluded (Freon) or CFC-12 and other chlorofluora carbons
deplete the ozone.  So to protect the earth’s ozone layer the Clean Air Act was implemented.  Newer
vehicles, mostly after 1994, no longer use CFC-12.  However, there are still approx 30 million
vehicles that require service. When CFC-12 is depleted these vehicles will require alternative
refrigerant as the EPA believes they are safer for human health and the environment than CFC-12
and meet the EPA’s “acceptable subject to use conditions”.  It is important to discuss the Purchase
of Alternative Refrigerant (more information at EPA’s site
http://www.epa.gov/ozone/title6/SNAP/snap.html also http://www.epagov/ozone/) and others.

Q: Carbon Clean?
A: Because carbon build up in to days engines " induction systems"  it is very important to keep them
clean. Most shops use  the 2 hose system which causes the fuel to reverse and does a better job of
dissolving carbon,  where the one hose system busts the carbon, the carbon needs to be cleaned
out of the throttle body,  plenum chambers and valves. Carbon build up on the back side of valves
absorbs fuel like a sponge, if bad enough can hold the valve off the seat along with restricting air &
fuel flow

Q: Fuel
What Octane Rating should I use?
A: You should always check your owner's manual.  In the Denver area due to the altitude we have 85
octane available at the pumps and for most vehicles it seems to work OK. Most manufacturer
recommends 87 octane unless you have a high compression  engine like some of the performance
vehicles which recommend higher octane. You should not use the higher octane unless it is
recommended by the manufacture.

Q: Tires
Speed Rating & Load Index & Service Descriptions (See tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general /speed.
htm) they have a complete break down example P195/60R15 87S , the 87 is the tires load index the S
is the speed rating the higher the load index the greater the load capacity
87=1,201 pounds/ 89=1,279 pounds/88=1,235 pounds/ 86=1,168 pounds etc:
Speed rating  is the maximum speed for which the tire is rated example
S = 112 mph /N=87 mph /P=93 mph/Q=99 mph/R=106 mph/S=112 mph/T=118 mph
U=124 mph/H=130 mph/V=149 mph/Z=149 mph/W=168 mph /Y=186 mph etc check out tirerack there is a
lot of good info on that Site. Tires over 6 years old are not to be souled  check numbers after the
DOT on tires for manufacture Date  (Example a 2002= made in the 20th week 2002)

QQ: Transmission Flush-Service
A: To days Vehicles require specific transmission fluids (Factory recommended fluids only) because
of their design, Built in slippage and electronic components require more maintenance. So changing
the (filter) Servicing the Transmission  is very important but also important is power flushing the
Transmission fluid is  important especially with the computer controlled transmissions as the
computer looks at the quality of the shift and also the speed of the shift so a sticky valve body or
clutch pack can cause other problems and
cause drive ability problems.

Q: Do you need to warm up your car?
(1) Letting a vehicle Idle in cold weather 5 to 10 minutes to warm up  the
engine while clearing snow & windows and other things you really
need to know that  this practice actually damage a modern vehicle,
unless it was built before computerized systems.
Prolonged idling also wastes fuel, add to air pollution, & possibility of theft
(2) Computerized vehicles shouldn't be warmed up, Idling especially in
cold weather, causes partially combusted fuel residue to build up inside the
engine, This build-up damages the internal components & less fuel
efficient. Emissions are at a higher level than your car produces when  driven.
Idling, cold emission go through the exhaust untreated, The  Catalytic
converter needs to be driven long enough to heat it up to  operating  temperature to do it's
job that is only done by being driven
(3) Idling does nothing to speed up the rate of other components like Fluids,
transmissions, steering, suspension, tires, drive-trains etc:
(a) 10 min of idling per day adds up to an average of 22 gals of
gas per year that's $64 aver per year at current prices
(4) It should only be necessary (Cold AM's Idling for 1 min and 30 sec
all other cases. According to (Colorado AAA)

Q: Oil
A: Always use the oil that manufacture recommends.  Some oils claim  you can extend  oil changes,
just remember longer service intervals may cause the manufacture to deny your warranty.  Synthetic
motor oils are sometimes recommended by the manufacture  (example) engines that run hotter, like
the Corvette as it's oil can run around 260 Degrees compared to a normal temp of 220 Degrees also
in engines that have a bigger than normal oil reservoir (oil pan).  Remember oil not only lubricates
but has to suspend contamination in the oil not Allow containments to adhere to the internal engine
parts.  The better the oil additives in the oil the better it keeps the contaminates off internal engines
parts Use synthetic oils in real cold climates. Not all synthetics-blends  have all needed additives  If
cost is not a problem use OEM recommended you can't go wrong. Oil & oil filter results available
theautoanswerman.com
B: Example  Oils have to move and lubricate  through a cold engine as well a move and lubricate in
the hot engines long distance oils just widen the window at the cold and hot ends of the window but
you still have the wear and contamination of engine wear so give your car the maintenance it needs,
Some upgrade oils only increase oil company's profits

(Vehicle needs Towed)
(2)  Stay on = Service Soon  (can be driven to shop)
(3)  Go on Then off=Intermittent

(1)
Red Light usually means "FIX IT NOW"
(2) Yellow usually means Service Soon:
Yellow on ABS it means ABS are disabled and system is using regular brakes
with-out ABS on  (Most vehicles)

Example
Red Temp light
Could mean LOW ON COOLANT OR ENGINE OVER-HEATED DON'T DRIVE &
TURN ON HEATER: Have vehicle checked
Example
Red Brake Light:
Could mean your parking brake or switch is out of adjustment or defective
or Brake switch or Fluid is low also possible  problem with Brakes
This condition is unsafe "Don't Drive" until you have it checked :
Example
Red Battery Light
Have the Charging system Serviced: Charging system is not staying up wit
h the needs of the vehicle may run bad because of improper voltage:

Bottom Line Have Vehicle Service accord at least to owners manual
Jump Starting your Vehicle (Don't) unless Necessary
as Damage to your Vehicle Electrical system is possible;

(1) Make sure The Battery is not Damaged & same size & amps
(2) Make sure vehicles are not touching & Ign switch is off on both vehicles
(3) Connect
(+) Terminal of the Charged Battery to the (+) of the Dead Battery
(4) Next Connect
(-) Negative Cable of the Charged Battery then to the clean
unpainted area on the Dead vehicles Engine
(5) Disconnect in Reverse order
(6) Find reason your battery was Dead (HAVE YOUR SYSTEM CHECKED OUT)
                                NEW OIL FROM GM
Welcome to the GM dexos information center!
General Motors' commitment to excellence extends to the oil put into a GM
engine. Oil is a vital component of any engine and helps it run at its peak
performance. That's why GM Powertrain Fuel and Lubes engineers
developed the dexos' engine oil specification. The result - an engine oil
designed specifically for your GM engine with added performance in areas
important to its operation and maintenance. dexos" is a high quality,
robust oil that will contribute to longer drain intervals (meaning a
customer
can go longer between oil changes) as well as improved emissions
performance, fuel efficiency and engine protection. The GM Engine Oil Life
System (EOLS) is now a global application. With the dexos specification in
place for all GM cars and trucks, GM will be able to recalibrate the EOLS
computer algorithm to further extend service intervals on all vehicles.
